Interested in joining AMSA? Maybe you are an incoming freshman, looking for guidance as you begin your pre-Medical journey here at UGA. Or, you might be an established student looking for a community of peers to support you along the way. Maybe you're a transfer student looking for resources. Whatever your story may be, here at AMSA, we welcome you!
The American Medical Student Association, or AMSA for short, is the premier club for pre-Med students at the University of Georgia. General Body Meetings are held one Thursday each month at 7:00pm. Meetings are designed to keep members informed of volunteer opportunities in the community, current events relevant to pre-Med students, involvement opportunities on campus, and much more! In addition to General Body Meetings, Workshops are held periodically for members as well. The topics are chosen each semester based on information that would be most relevant to members at that time, including "Gap Year Options", "Research Opportunities at UGA", and "MCAT Prep." Workshops and General Body Meetings occasionally feature guest speakers, such as physicians in the Athens area, representatives from the Pre-Health advising office, etc.
AMSA also encourages members to interact the community around them. Volunteer opportunities are organized by AMSA Exec and offered to members to assist them in finding their individual passions. AMSA members are encouraged to pursue volunteering opportunities outside of the club as well. The AMSA Chapter at the University of Georgia works with Relay for Life as our designated philanthropy and fundraises year round. AMSA also participates and attends Relay for Life events throughout the academic year.
Above all, AMSA seeks to remind students that there is more to this process than just school! As a club, we provide numerous opportunities for members to take a break from studying. AMSA Exec hosts events such as Barbecues, Ice Skating, Pumpkin Carving, Percentage Nights, Holiday Parties and more!
If you are interested in joining AMSA, please attend our first General Body Meeting in the Fall of 2019. This meeting is open to prospective members as well as active members, where more information on membership and how to join will be provided. Please check back periodically for dates!
