The first general body meeting of the year, Thursday, August 21st, featured a profile and presentation from guest speaker, Dr. Laurel Murrow.
Dr. Murrow received her BA in Religion at Wellesley College and her M.Sc in Public Health at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She spent 5 years working as an infectious disease epidemiologist and clinical trial coordinator before attending Johns Hopkins University to pursue her degree in medicine. Dr. Murrow returned to her home state of Georgia to complete her residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University.
After completing her training, Dr. Murrow served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the GRU/UGA Medical Partnership and currently serves as the Medical Director of the Mercy Health Center. Dr. Murrow is passionate about providing free care to uninsured patients in and around the Athens area, focusing on improving health status and health literacy in underserved populations. Dr. Murrow serves on the boards of the Athens Health Network, UGA HEROS, and the Georgia Alliance for Health Literacy.
